Principal's Message

Harlan Principal
Welcome to Harlan Elementary! I love being able to work with the youngest students in the Mount Pleasant Community School District. There isn’t a day that goes by when a student doesn’t do something to make me smile!
My career in education started in 2002 at Columbus Community School District. I stayed there for 18 years teaching multiple grade levels, Title I, and was an instructional coach. I began my principal career in 2020 at Van Allen Elementary here in Mt. Pleasant.
At Harlan Elementary, our vision is to set the foundation for lifelong learning by fostering an environment that empowers students to thrive. We are dedicated to:
- Creating students who are eager to learn: We inspire curiosity and a love for discovery in every child.
- Teaching students to be comfortable in the uncomfortable: We encourage resilience and adaptability, helping students embrace challenges with confidence.
- Building independence and strength: We guide students to develop self-reliance and inner strength, preparing them for success in all aspects of life.
- Developing students who always push for more: We nurture a growth mindset, instilling the drive to continually strive for personal excellence.
There is one thing about Harlan Elementary that sets us apart from the rest of the schools in the MPCSD. ALL of the students who attend Harlan start their formal education with us. We are the first stop along their travels through the years. That is a huge responsibility and we are excited to be part of your child’s journey!
Your involvement in your child’s school life is very important. When we work together, it is amazing the things your child can accomplish. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I welcome you to join us on the journey to unlock your child’s full potential!
